Hottest color of the season: Orange spice

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

Normally I don’t think too much about the latest trends or the supposedly „color of the year“. In my opinion it’s only the industries way of getting people to buy their products that, oh look, fits this seasons color scheme.

One thing I couldn’t get out of my mind though is how much orange tones I’ve seen lately.

Wether it’s eyeshadow, nail polish or a red carpet gown, there’s always some orange in there. So whilst mindlessly skipping through the February issue of Allure- which is yet the best magazine subscription to date- I found the last piece of evenidence that orange is indeed the new trend color. Subsequently, I felt the need to challenge myself to see how much orange I could cooperate into my look without looking like spice cupboard.

So let’s talk through this look:

While it’s still freezing outside the sun made a surprise appearance during our shoot. The blush bliss with a heart shaped see through lining gives the distressed denim a more feminine and dressy look. To keep the tropical feel the makeup has I decided to bring out my favorite spring and summer crossbody bag from Rebecca Minkoff. Who can say no to palm tree leaves on a bag ? Since it far from actually being spring I kept my footwear more winter appropriate with some ankle boots by Steve Madden which have the cutest gold zipper detailing on the sides.

The key elements of my beauty look can be seen above. I used a ton of different matte orange shades to give it a more blown out effect and then added some shine on the lid with the colourpop eyeshadow in LaLa. After applying my base I used a makeup forever cream blush and a colourpop highlighter to keep the skin as natural as possible. To break up the orange theme I added a pop of green on the lower lashline using the colourpop eyeliner in Zulu and blending that out with the green shades of the Viseart 08 editorial palette. The lipstick is the Kylie LipKit in „22“ with the matching lipliner.

Finishing off my look I sprayed on some YSL Black opium which has a lot of dark and musky but also spice tones which fit this look perfectly.
